"Learning
for Life"
Now on to the really important stuff. Just click these links to learn more about school life here at Neosho Rapids Elementary.
Neosho Rapids School is located in the town of Neosho Rapids, which is 13 miles southeast of Emporia, Kansas. This area is predominantly rural.
The school is a K-8 facility that serves approximately 260 students. There are approximately 170 students in the elementary building in grades Early Start thru Fifth.
Beginning with the 2000-2001 school year, Neosho Rapids Elementary is again doing some remodeling of the school. A new computer lab as well as classrooms will be added. Melody, the school secretary, will FINALLY get her window. You go girl!!
We have had "Campbell's Soup Labels for Education in our school for several years. We have been able to buy some really neat
software for our computers thru this program.
Mr. Enos
is our fearless leader here at Neosho Rapids Elementary School
and a true child advocate. He truly is a dedicated, caring administrator
and the
We are trying another program this year also. Boxtops 4 Education thru the General Mills Corporation. All you need to do is save the boxtops. Parent
Coordinator, Amy Wilson is in charge of this endeavor. See their site
to the success of our school.
Ms. Wilhite loves
!! (In
addition to being an excellent physical education teacher and K-8 counselor,
that is.) Ms. Wilhite is dedicated to improving our school through programs
like PAWS and her special interest in Inclusion.
Mrs.
Dennet and Lara Jacobson teach
!! Mrs. Dennet teaches choir and band to the 4th grade on up thru High School.
Ms. Jacobson teaches Kindergarten thru 3rd grade. These two talented ladies have been a real
asset to our school.
Secretary: Melody Nienstedt has been the principal's secretary for many years.
She keeps things running smoothly, and is a wonderful confidante and friend
to our students. "Do you want to talk to the principal, or the secretary
who really runs the school????" Yeah.....Melody finally get's a
WINDOW.
Title I: Janice Davis has been the Title I Reading teacher for over twenty years.
She has helped countless numbers of children become better readers and helped
them to improve their schoolwork because of this. Janice is truly dedicated. Thanks to a grant,
our school now has 8 new IBM computers with the SUCCESSMAKER program for children. Janice
is putting that software program to good use. New to 252 this year, Janice will be introducing a new
program called Reading Recovery. This program is aimed at younger readers.
Teachers' Aide: What would the
teachers do without the help of Kori Rosenquist and Brenda Martin??....(We never want to find that out!!) They grade
papers, covers classes, keeps the copier humming, supervise the lunchroom, works on the Teacher's computer problems and helps out in any way they can.
Librarians: Irma Piper and Joellen Dill
maintain the library used by both the elementary and the junior high. New construction
this summer has yielded a new library. They are busy getting settled in. I think the students
will really enjoy their new library.
Speech/Paraprofessionals: Nancy Devenport and Donna Parsons
are heading up our Speech Department. This year they are doing inclusion in the classrooms for
their identified students. They are a welcomed addition to our school. Also,
Misty Gentner
is in charge of the Learning Lab. They try inclusion of students whenever possible. Her staff
consists of Betty Larson and Susan Strunk.
Cooks: YUM!!!YUM!!! That's about
the only way to describe the wonderful meals prepared by our cooks, Bernice Fagan,
Joni Givens and Mel Schwinghamer They bake their own breads, cookies, cakes, etc.....The smells coming out of the kitchen make
your mouth water! (sometimes they even leave something in the teachers'
lounge for the rest of us....!!)
Custodians: Our school would
not function without the work of our custodians,
Kermit Hedrick, (Maintenance Supervisor) Susan Howard Farah Naylor and Teresa Matthews. They keep the place clean and in good working order!!! They are always ready and willing to help out wherever they can around
school!!
